HONG KONG, July 27 (Xinhua) -- The COVID-19 pandemic was still raging in Asia-Pacific on Tuesday as Indonesia reported the highest daily death toll ever of 2,069, the health ministry said.

Indonesia also recorded 45,203 newly-confirmed cases in the past 24 hours.

Based on the latest data, the total of coronavirus cases in the Southeast Asian country reported by the government is now at 3,239,936, while the related death toll has increased to 86,835.

India's total tally rose to 31,440,951 as 29,689 new cases were registered during the past 24 hours across the country, showed the federal health ministry's latest data.

"India reports less than 30,000 daily cases after 132 days," said a statement issued by the ministry.

Besides, as many as 415 deaths due to the pandemic since Monday morning took the total death toll to 421,382.

There are still 398,100 active cases in the country.

Malaysia reported another 16,117 new infections, the health ministry said, bringing the national total to 1,044,071.

Health Ministry Director-General Noor Hisham Abdullah said in a press statement that 26 of the new cases are imported and 16,091 are local transmissions.

Another 207 more deaths have been reported, bringing the death toll to 8,408.

Some 11,526 patients have been released after recovery, bringing the total number of cured and discharged to 865,439, or 82.9 percent of all cases.

The Philippines' Department of Health (DOH) reported 7,186 new infections, the highest since June 13, bringing the total number of confirmed cases in the Southeast Asian country to 1,562,420.

The death toll climbed to 27,318 after 72 more patients died from the viral disease, the DOH added.

"COVID-19 cases in Metro Manila increased by 47 percent," Health Secretary Francisco Duque said in a televised press conference, adding that the capital posted "a little over 900" new cases per day last week.

Pakistan confirmed 3,262 new cases over the last 24 hours, the National Command and Operation Center (NCOC) said.

The NCOC said that the country's number of overall confirmed cases has risen to 1,011,708, including 928,722 recoveries.

The disease killed 39 people over the last 24 hours, increasing the overall death toll to 23,087, the NCOC said, adding that 2,722 are in critical condition.

South Korea reported 1,365 more cases, raising the total number of infections to 191,531.

Of the new cases, 349 were Seoul residents and 364 were people residing in Gyeonggi province.

Eighty-nine cases were imported from overseas, lifting the combined figure to 11,660.

Concern emerged about the growing number of confirmed cases in the non-metropolitan area ahead of the summer vacation season, when people in the capital area moved to non-capital region to enjoy summer holidays.

Two more deaths were confirmed, leaving the death toll at 2,079.

Cambodia confirmed 685 new infections including 262 imported cases, raising the national total caseload to 74,386, the Ministry of Health (MoH) said in a statement.

Nineteen more fatalities had been reported, bringing the overall death toll to 1,324, the ministry said, adding that 775 other patients had recovered, taking the total number of recoveries to 66,725. Enditem
