MADRID, July 28 (Xinhua) -- Dutch international Memphis Depay may have arrived at FC Barcelona on a free transfer, but the striker is still one of the signings of the summer after rejecting offers from other clubs after the expiry of his contract with Olympique Lyonnais.

Speaking in an interview with the El Mundo Deportivo newspaper in Spain, the striker, who had been a personal petition for Barca coach Ronald Koeman, said he had chosen Barcelona after being offered more money by other teams.

"It is a great club; I think it fits my way of playing and I love this city. There are many reasons," he said.

Memphis said he knew Barca were interested in him, "a long time ago, maybe a year," adding that "you feel very good when a club like that is interested in you."

The forward was photographed many years ago as a child wearing a Barca shirt, and said the day he finally joined the club was "one of the most beautiful days of my life, I was happy that it came and they were very beautiful days."

He added that his ambition was to win all possible titles with Barca. "They are all important, La Liga, the Champions League. I don't have any special ones," commented the forward.

In another interview published in Diario Sport the same day, Memphis also talked about his reputation as a 'rebel.'

"I don't care if they say I'm a rebel. Sometimes, if you are a rebel on the pitch it can bring something extra and you win the game. Luis Suarez won so many games and scored so many goals, and not because he's the sweetest, nicest person on the field."

"Honestly, I'm not sure why being a 'rebel' has such negative connotations," he added. Enditem
