ACCRA, July 29 (Xinhua) -- President of the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) Ben Nunoo Mensah on Thursday tipped Ghana's sprinter Benjamin Azamati to excel at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.
"I have a lot of hope for our track and field team. I think they will be a sensation at the Olympics," the president told Xinhua in an interview.
"Especially Benjamin Azamati, everybody should look out for him. He is one of Ghana's medal prospects and we expect to see him take the global stage by storm," said Nunoo Mensah.
Azamati will participate in the men's 100m preliminary round event on Saturday before joining Ghana's 4x100m team which includes Joseph Paul Amoah, Joseph Oduro Manu, and Sean Safo-Antwi for their first race.
The 23-year-old sprinter made huge waves in Ghana on March 26, 2021, when he clocked 9.97 seconds in Texas, breaking a 22-year-old national record held by Leo Myles Mills. He also won gold at the 2019 Africa Games. Enditem
