BAGHDAD -- Eight people were killed and 10 others wounded on Friday in an attack by militants of the extremist Islamic State (IS) group on a funeral and a nearby checkpoint in the north of the Iraqi capital Baghdad, a provincial police source said.

The attack took place in the evening when IS militants attacked a funeral tent in the village of Albu Jily near the town of Yathrib, some 80 km north of Baghdad, Col. Mohammed al-Bazi told Xinhua. (Iraq-IS Attack)

GAZA -- Israel announced on Friday it will ease some restrictions imposed on the Gaza Strip, including an expansion of the allowed fishing zone.

"On Sunday, it will be possible to bring equipment and goods to Gaza, including materials for projects funded by the international community in the areas of food, water, medicine, and fishing," Ghassan Alian, chief of the Coordination of the Government Activities in the Territories, said in a statement. TUNIS -- Saudi Arabia on Friday expressed firm support to Tunisian President Kais Saied amid the political crisis and showed respect to Saied's decisions, Tunisian official TAP news agency reported.

RABAT -- Moroccan King Mohammed VI has granted a pardon to 1,243 prisoners, the official news agency MAP reported Friday.
