Live COVID-19 updates: Cuba reports 8,736 COVID-19 cases, 65 deaths in one day

BEIJING, July 31 (Xinhua) -- The following are the updates on the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

HAVANA -- Cuba registered 8,736 new cases of COVID-19 and 65 more deaths in the past 24 hours, accumulating 375,721 confirmed cases and raising the pandemic death toll to 2,693, the Ministry of Public Health said on Friday.

The ministry's national director of hygiene and epidemiology, Francisco Duran, noted the pandemic was affecting young people in Cuba.

BEIJING -- The Chinese mainland on Friday reported 30 new locally transmitted COVID-19 cases, the National Health Commission said in its daily report on Saturday.

Of the locally transmitted cases, 19 were reported in Jiangsu, six in Hunan, two in Chongqing, and one each in Liaoning, Fujian and Sichuan, according to the commission.

JERUSALEM -- Israel's Ministry of Health reported 2,280 new COVID-19 cases on Friday, bringing the tally of infections in the country to 871,343.

The death toll from the virus in Israel rose by three to 6,469, while the number of patients in serious condition rose from 151 to 168, the ministry said.

SANTIAGO -- Chile reported on Friday 1,355 new COVID-19 infections and 71 more deaths in the last 24 hours, bringing the total to 1,614,629 cases and 35,366 deaths, the Ministry of Health said.

In a statement, Health Minister Enrique Paris said that in the last seven days, there has been a 14 percent decrease in cases and that in 24 hours the national positivity rate was 2.14 percent. Enditem
