GAZA, Aug. 1 (Xinhua) -- Palestinian health officials said late on Sunday that a third wave of coronavirus is expected soon in the besieged Gaza Strip, home of more than two million people.

Head of the departments to combat coronavirus at the European hospital Mahmoud al-Sheikh told reporters that the number of COVID-19 patients admitted in the hospitals is increasing, as a new wave of coronavirus is expected at the end of August, and "it will reach its peak between October and November."

Meanwhile, Fathi Abu Warda, an advisor of the Palestinian minister of health, warned of spreading a new wave of coronavirus amid recent increasing numbers of infections.

"The Health Ministry is anticipating and concerned about the spread of a new wave of coronavirus in the Gaza Strip," Abu Warda said, adding the health situation in the Gaza Strip is deteriorating amid a severe scarcity of medical resources and supplies due to a blockade that Israel has been imposing on the enclave for 15 years.

The two health officials called on the populations to get vaccinated and follow the precautionary measures of wearing facemasks and abide by social distancing.

Palestinian Ministry of Health said on Sunday that it recorded three fatalities, 111 new COVID-19 cases and 111 recoveries in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip in the last 24 hours.

A total of 591,603 people have been vaccinated in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip so far, including 415,957 who received the second dose of the vaccine. Enditem
