ADDIS ABABA, Aug. 18 (Xinhua) -- Flooding in Ethiopia's capital city Addis Ababa has left at least seven people dead, local media reported on Wednesday.

Flooding caused by heavy rains on Tuesday in the city also caused extensive property damage, Solomon Fisseha, Commissioner of Addis Ababa city fire and emergency dangers management commission, was quoted by state affiliated media outlet Fana Broadcasting Corporate (FBC) as saying.

In July, the Ethiopia National Disaster Risk Management Commission said that around 2 million Ethiopians are vulnerable to flooding during the ongoing rainy season.

Ethiopia is in the midst of a rainy season which started in June and is expected to last until mid-September.

The rainy season occasionally causes landslides and floods in various parts of the east African country.

The Ethiopian government is currently undertaking natural disasters warning measures and rehabilitation work in natural calamity affected areas. Enditem
