YAOUNDE -- One person was killed on Sunday after gunmen opened fire in a church in Cameroon's English-speaking region of Northwest, according to local and security sources.

A group of gunmen broke into the church in Bali, a locality in the region when the Sunday church service was in progress, and opened fire on worshippers, a church member who was attending the service told Xinhua on phone but opted for anonymity. (Cameroon-Anglophone region-Shooting)

TRIPOLI -- An Islamic State (IS) suicide bomber attacked on Sunday a security checkpoint belonging to the eastern-based army in the southeastern Libyan town Zalla, without causing any casualties.

NEW YORK -- An earthquake with a magnitude of 7.2 jolted South Sandwich Islands region at 21:33:21 GMT on Sunday, the U.S. Geological Survey said.

ACCRA -- At least 10 people died and dozens were injured in a road accident in southern Ghana on Sunday, an official confirmed.

Winneba Municipal Fire Officer Henry Asiedu said the accident happened when two buses traveling in opposite directions collided at Gomoa Mampong, a fishing community near the Accra-Cape Coast highway. (Ghana-Road-Accident)

NEW YORK -- Tropical Storm Henri made landfall at 12:15 p.m. Sunday near Westerly, Rhode Island, with winds of 60 mph, the National Hurricane Center (NHC) said, as thousands of customers without power braced for the full effect of the storm.

Tropical storm warnings were extended from coastal Connecticut and Rhode Island to the luxurious oceanfront estates of the Hamptons on the eastern end of Long Island, New York, with over 100,000 power outages reported for customers up the northern East Coast as of 5:00 p.m., most in Rhode Island.
