BEIRUT -- Four people on Monday were killed in an explosion at a factory in Burj al-Barajneh in the southern suburbs of Lebanon's Beirut, the National News Agency reported.

The cause of the explosion is still unknown.

TALLINN -- Alar Karis, the sole candidate in Estonia's presidential election, failed to garner enough support in the first round of voting held in the country's 101-member Parliament (Riigikogu) during an extraordinary session on Monday.

Karis, director of the Estonian National Museum and a former auditor general, received support from 63 lawmakers. He needed a two-thirds majority, or at least 68 votes, to be elected in the secret ballot, the Parliament said in a press release. (Estonia-President-Election)

ADEN, Yemen -- A total of 11 soldiers of the pro-government Yemeni forces were killed Monday as the Houthi rebels launched intensified attacks against the country's oil-rich province of Marib, a military official told Xinhua.

KUALA LUMPUR -- Malaysian Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob is under self-quarantine after coming into close contact with a COVID-19 patient, the government said on Monday.

HOUSTON -- At least one person was confirmed dead after the powerful Hurricane Ida made a landfall in the southern U.S. state Louisiana on Sunday, authorities said.
