WASHINGTON -- The U.S. Central Command announced Monday that the withdrawal of U.S. troops from Afghanistan has completed, ending 20 years of U.S.-led invasion into the country.

"I'm here to announce the completion of our withdrawal from Afghanistan and the end of the mission to evacuate American citizens, third country nationals and vulnerable Afghans," Kenneth McKenzie, commander of U.S. Central Command, announced during a news conference held by the Department of Defense. UNITED NATIONS -- UN Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process Tor Wennesland on Monday called for "demonstrable change" in the situation in the occupied Palestinian territory.

"I remain extremely concerned by the dire financial situation facing the Palestinian Authority (PA) and its ability to withstand the ongoing fiscal and health crises," he told the Security Council in a briefing. (UN-Mideast-Palestine)

BRUSSELS -- The Council of the European Union (EU) on Monday recommended that member states of the EU reintroduce restrictions on travellers from the United States due to a surge in COVID-19 infections there.

LIMA -- The number of people killed in Sunday's collision of two vessels in the Huallaga River in the northern Peruvian district of Yurimaguas has risen to 14, Defense Minister Walter Ayala confirmed on Monday.

Twelve bodies were found in the river on Sunday, and two more bodies were retrieved on Monday, the official told Canal N news channel. (Peru-Boat Accident) Enditem
