BEIJING, Aug. 31 (Xinhua) -- The following are the updates on the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

BRUSSELS -- The Council of the European Union (EU) on Monday recommended that member states of the EU reintroduce restrictions on travellers from the United States due to a surge in COVID-19 infections there.

The decision, which the Council announced through a statement, reversed a decision taken in June when the bloc put the U.S. on the safe travel list just in time for the summer holidays.

ANKARA -- Turkey on Monday confirmed 19,557 new COVID-19 cases, raising its tally of infections to 6,366,438, according to its Health Ministry.

The death toll from the virus in Turkey rose by 245 to 56,458, while 13,401 more people recovered in the last 24 hours.

PRAGUE -- The Czech Republic will offer booster shots from September to those who completed their vaccination at least eight months ago, Health Minister Adam Vojtech announced on Monday.

"Revaccination is set for everyone primarily on the basis of time," Vojtech said. "The option to be revaccinated with a third dose will apply to everyone no earlier than eight months after the end of vaccination. We recommend that risk groups take this opportunity."

LONDON -- Another 26,476 people in Britain have tested positive for COVID-19, bringing the total number of coronavirus cases in the country to 6,757,650, according to official figures released Monday.

The country also reported another 48 coronavirus-related deaths. The total number of coronavirus-related deaths in Britain now stands at 132,485. These figures only include the deaths of people who died within 28 days of their first positive test.

RABAT -- Morocco announced on Monday 2,676 new COVID-19 cases, taking the tally of infections in the North African country to 856,049.

The total number of recoveries from COVID-19 in Morocco increased by 7,360 to 787,794. Enditem
