BERLIN, Aug. 31 (Xinhua) -- Austrian international Marcel Sabitzer has joined Bayern Munich after putting pen to paper on a deal until June 2025, Leipzig and the German record champions announced on Monday.

The 27-year-old attacking midfielder will be reunited with his former coach Julian Nagelsmann and defender Dayot Upamecano, who both also joined from Leipzig.

"Marcel Sabitzer has everything a player needs for Bayern. He also won't need a long settling-in period as he is already familiar with the philosophy of our head coach Julian Nagelsmann," said Bayern Munich chairman Oliver Kahn.

Sabitzer joined Leipzig in the summer of 2014 and marked overall 40 goals in 177 competitive appearances.

"We are happy that we were able to sign Marcel Sabitzer. Marcel is a very good player, he has a great mentality, is very ambitious and was the team captain of Leipzig. Our coach knows him also very well," said sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic.

Bayern's new arrival earned his first call-up for the national team in 2012. He scored eight goals in 54 international caps and was part of Austria's Euro 2020 squad which got eliminated by Italy in overtime in the round of the last 16.

"I am delighted to be able to play for Bayern. I will give everything for this club, and I want to win as many games as possible and of course, win many titles," Sabitzer told Bayern's official homepage.

Sabitzer will have the chance to make his debut against his old employer as the third-placed Bayern clash with Leipzig in the fourth round in Bundesliga on September 11. Enditem
