BRUSSELS -- Senior officials from European Union (EU) member states on Tuesday pledged coordination with the United Nations on the stabilization of the region after Taliban takes over Afghanistan, urging Taliban to cut ties with international terrorism.

Justice and home affairs ministers of the EU countries said in a statement following a meeting in Brussels that the EU and its 27 nations "stand determined to act jointly to prevent the recurrence of uncontrolled large-scale illegal migration movements faced in the past, by preparing a coordinated and orderly response." BAGHDAD -- Iraq launched on Tuesday an operation to hunt down the militants of the extremist Islamic State (IS) group near the Iraqi-Syrian border in Iraq's western province of Anbar, a provincial security source said.

Iraqi security forces, backed by aircraft, pushed into the desert area in three routes to clear the border areas of the IS militants, who frequently carry out attacks on the Iraqi security forces, Colonel Salih Ibrahim from Anbar's police told Xinhua. (Iraq-IS-Operation)
