JERUSALEM, Sept. 1 (Xinhua) -- Israel's basketball champions Maccabi Tel Aviv on Wednesday said in a statement that three of its players and a staff member have tested positive for COVID-19.

The four joined another player from the Israeli Euroleague club, who returned a positive test on Tuesday.

The club did not disclose the names of the four players and staff member infected.

As a consequence, Maccabi canceled its participation in its first pre-season tournament, scheduled for the upcoming weekend in Greece and hosted by Euroleague club Olympiacos Piraeus.

"We are taking every precaution possible and wish to remind that all players and staff members are vaccinated, including the five persons that had a positive PCR result", the Israeli club noted.

Maccabi Tel Aviv open their Euroleague season on September 30 with a home game against Bayern Munich. Enditem
