JERUSALEM, Sept. 2 (Xinhua) -- The Israeli state-run company Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) will produce F-16 fighter jet wings for the U.S. security and aerospace company Lockheed Martin, both companies said on Thursday.
The IAI recently reopened assembly line, established in the 1980s, following increased worldwide demand for the advanced F-16 Block 70/72 version, the IAI said.
According to the agreement with Lockheed Martin, the IAI will produce F-16 wings that will be shipped to the F-16 final assembly line in Greenville, South Carolina.
Boaz Levy, IAI's President and CEO, said that "resuming the production of F-16 wings is a continuation of a decades-long cooperation of manufacturing aerostructures for Lockheed Martin customers."
Joshua Shani, Chief Executive of Lockheed Martin Israel, said that "Lockheed Martin has invested billions of U.S. dollars with Israeli defense and aerospace industries because of the high-quality, cutting-edge technology that Israeli industry offers."
Established in 1953, the IAI is considered a global leader in the supply of technologies and systems in the domains of land, air, sea, outer space and cyber. Enditem
