BANGKOK -- Despite the easing of COVID-19 restrictions, the economic recovery is still worrisome as many people have low purchasing power, an executive at the Bank of Thailand (BoT) said.

INTERLAKEN, Switzerland -- Swiss Federal Councillor Karin Keller-Sutter told Xinhua during the Swiss Economic Forum (SEF) that she was optimistic on the trade outlook between Switzerland and China.
"I think that trade between Switzerland and China has rebounded again ... This is a good sign," Keller-Sutter told Xinhua in an exclusive interview on the sidelines of the SEF, one of Switzerland's leading annual economic conferences taking place in the tourist resort town of Interlaken this week. WASHINGTON -- U.S. Democratic senator Joe Manchin on Thursday expressed opposition against a 3.5-trillion-U.S. dollar spending package that would enact most of President Joe Biden's social-spending agenda, citing concerns about higher inflation, debt and the inevitability of future crises.
"I, for one, won't support a $3.5 trillion bill, or anywhere near that level of additional spending, without greater clarity about why Congress chooses to ignore the serious effects inflation and debt have on existing government programs," Manchin, a moderate Democratic senator from West Virginia, said in an op-ed published by The Wall Street Journal. ISLAMABAD -- A number of energy projects set up under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) have been providing one-third of Pakistan's total energy supply, Pakistan's Foreign Ministry spokesperson Asim Iftikhar Ahmad said.
During a weekly press briefing on Thursday, the spokesperson said that the CPEC has played an important role in addressing the energy shortage in Pakistan, adding that in addition to energy supply, CPEC's energy projects have created more than 26,000 working opportunities over the past several years.
