ISTANBUL, Sept. 5 (Xinhua) -- Color Run, one of the most colorful sports events in Turkey's biggest city Istanbul, was held on Sunday with the participation of 1,250 runners.

The contestants, aged from 16 to 85, gathered at the Caddebostan park on the Asian side of the city along the shores of the Marmara sea.

They started the 10-km race with their faces and jerseys painted in different colors, shapes, and patterns.

Additionally, the event organizers sprayed colorful paints on the competitors at three different points of the track "to energize and motivate them."

"When I heard that the race would be a riot of color, I wanted to participate since I am a person who deeply loves colors," said Fulya Guven, a 20-year-old participant to Xinhua.

Guven made dots of various colors and shapes on her cheeks and forehead. "It will be very fun," she added before the start.

The runners' scores were measured with electronic timing chips.

The event, part of a series of races dubbed "I am running Istanbul," was organized by the Istanbul municipality to offer citizens the opportunity to do sports while having fun. Enditem
