PHNOM PENH, Sept. 6 (Xinhua) -- Cambodia's COVID-19 case total has risen to 95,828 on Monday after 528 fresh infections were confirmed across the kingdom, the Ministry of Health (MoH) said in a statement.
The new cases included 340 domestic cases and 188 imported ones, the MoH said.
Thirteen more fatalities were registered, taking the coronavirus death toll to 1,970, it said, adding that another 447 patients recovered, bringing the total number of recoveries to 91,131.
World Health Organization (WHO) representative to Cambodia Li Ailan said the COVID-19 situation in the country has improved much thanks to non-pharmaceutical interventions (NPIs), vaccination rollouts and improving healthcare capacities.
"But, our job has not yet been done. The risk of COVID-19 due to the Delta variant and other variants remains very high, so we cannot be too relaxed," she told reporters.
Meanwhile, Li congratulated Cambodia on its successful vaccination drive, saying that the vaccines have now reached every corner of Cambodia.
The Southeast Asian nation launched a COVID-19 vaccination drive in February, targeting to inoculate 12 million people, or 75 percent of the kingdom's 16-million population by the end of this year.
MoH's secretary of state and spokeswoman Or Vandine said that to date, some 11.24 million people, or 70.27 percent of the total population, had received at least one vaccine dose, while 8.93 million, or 55.8 percent, had received both required shots and 664,113 had got a third dose or booster dose.
Most of the vaccines used in the country's immunization program are China's Sinovac and Sinopharm vaccines. Both vaccines have been approved by the WHO for emergency use.
"All vaccines recognized by the WHO are safe and effective because they have been thoroughly assessed for safety, efficacy and quality," Vandine said. Enditem
