KABUL -- The Taliban said on Tuesday that Mullah Hassan Akhund was appointed as the acting prime minister in Afghanistan's caretaker government.

Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid told a press conference that Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar and Abdul Salam Hanafi were named as the acting deputy prime ministers, while Mullah Yaqoob, son of the Taliban founder Mullah Mohammad Omar, was appointed as the acting defense minister.

ISLAMABAD -- A bomb blast hit a search team of Pakistani army on Tuesday in Pakistan's northwestern tribal district of North Waziristan, leaving two soldiers dead, the military said in a statement.

The Inter Service Public Relations (ISPR), the media wing of Pakistani army, said that security forces were conducting a clearance operation in Dosalli area of the district when an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) exploded and killed two soldiers.

"Pakistan army troops immediately cordoned the area to apprehend the terrorists involved in planting IED," said the ISPR, adding that one of the terrorists who was trying to flee from the area was killed in the exchange of fire. (Pakistan-Bomb-Death)

BAGHDAD -- Iraqi security forces on Tuesday killed four militants of the extremist Islamic State (IS) group in an operation in Iraq's northern province of Kirkuk, a security official said.

A joint force from the Iraqi army and Counter-Terrorism Service (CTS) killed the militants near the town of Altun Kupri, some 40 km north of the namesake provincial capital Kirkuk, said Ali al-Fraiji, commander of Kirkuk Operations Command, in a statement.

The operation came two days after a deadly IS attack on a federal police outpost south of the city of Kirkuk, about 250 km north of Baghdad, killing 13 security members and wounding six others. (Iraq-Militants-Death) Enditem
