BEIJING, Sept. 8 (Xinhua) -- The following are the updates on the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

NEW DELHI -- India's COVID-19 tally rose to 33,096,718 on Wednesday, as 37,875 new cases were registered during the past 24 hours across the country, showed the federal health ministry's latest data.

Besides, as many as 369 deaths due to the pandemic since Tuesday morning took the total death toll to 441,411.

VIENTIANE -- Pharmaceutical producers in Laos are to begin the production of herbal treatments for COVID-19 in capsule form.

Director General of the Department of Communicable Disease Control under the Lao Ministry of Health, Rattanaxay Phetsouvanh, told a press conference in Lao capital Vientiane on Tuesday that Laos' Institute of Traditional Medicine (ITM) has researched the process of producing herbal medications in capsule form, which are now being used to treat patients infected with COVID-19.

WELLINGTON -- New Zealand reported 21 new community cases of Delta variant of COVID-19 on Wednesday, all in the largest city Auckland, which brought the total number of confirmed cases in the country's community outbreak to 855.

Auckland has so far recorded 838 community cases and the capital Wellington has 17 cases, Director-General of Health Ashley Bloomfield told a press conference.

SEOUL -- South Korea reported 2,050 more confirmed cases of COVID-19 as of midnight Tuesday compared to 24 hours ago, raising the total number of coronavirus infections to 265,423.

The daily caseload was up from 1,597 in the prior day, hovering above 1,000 for 64 straight days. The daily average tally for the past week was 1,712.

The recent resurgence was attributable to cluster infections in the Seoul metropolitan area.

ABUJA -- A Nigerian virologist said COVID-19 origins tracing should not be politicized but be based on concrete scientific evidence.

Oyewole Tomori, chairman of Nigeria's Expert Review Committee on COVID-19, told media here that it would be difficult to specify the origins of the coronavirus, local daily the Leadership reported on Sunday.

SYDNEY -- The COVID-19 outbreak, which infiltrated the Australian state of New South Wales (NSW) in mid-June, is relentlessly building momentum with 1,480 new cases in the 24 hours up to 8:00 pm Tuesday.

It means the state's overall number of locally acquired cases of the Delta strain of the virus now stands at 31,914. Among Wednesday's other grim statistics were a further nine related deaths including that of an unvaccinated man in his 20s from the capital city of Sydney. All up, there have been 148 related deaths during this outbreak.

TUNIS -- The Tunisian Ministry of Health reported on Tuesday 580 new COVID-19 cases, raising the tally of infections in the North African country to 675,771.

The death toll from the virus rose by 20 to 23,901 in Tunisia, while the total number of recoveries reached 642,423, the ministry said in a statement. Enditem
