TEHRAN, Sept. 14 (Xinhua) -- Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin on Tuesday called for further cooperation in varied areas, including working together to tackle the COVID-19 challenges.

Iran is determined to boost cooperation with Russia, including the production of a joint vaccine to fight the coronavirus pandemic, Raisi said in a telephone conversation with Putin.

Bilateral cooperation should continue earnestly until the complete eradication of this disease, Raisi was quoted as saying by the state TV.

For his part, Putin also called for continued cooperation between Moscow and Tehran in the battle against the pandemic, including the joint production of the Russian Sputnik vaccine.

The Russian president, currently under self-quarantine due to possible exposure to the coronavirus, urged coordination over holding a summit at the earliest possible date. Enditem
