CAIRO, Sept. 14 (Xinhua) -- Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi on Tuesday met with Libyan eastern-based military commander Khalifa Haftar and Parliament Speaker Aquila Saleh to discuss Libya's peace and the upcoming Libyan elections.

"Egypt will continue its efforts to coordinate with all Libyan brothers during the coming period" to contribute to ensuring the unity of Libyan institutions and the holding of the decisive national elections by the end of the year, Sisi was quoted as saying.

The Egyptian president also called for ending foreign interventions "which primarily aim to implement their own agendas at the expense of the Libyan people," as well as the expulsion of all foreign forces and mercenaries from the Libyan territory.

Haftar and Aquila expressed their appreciation of Egypt's leading role and its tireless efforts to support the Libyan people since the outbreak of the crisis, the statement said.
