TOKYO -- The Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) said Thursday that severe tropical storm Chanthu is forecast to approach Japan, calling people to stay alert for landslides, heavy winds and high waves in western Japan, as rough weather is projected from northern to western Japan through Saturday.
Chanthu, now heading northwest after spinning over the East China Sea the previous days, is expected to alter its tracks. It will possibly turn into a low-pressure system on Friday morning, carrying gradually intensifying rain and winds to western Japan, the JMA said. (Japan-Tropical Storm)

SYDNEY -- Researchers said smoke from Australia's 2019 to 2020 bushfire season triggered a massive phytoplankton bloom in the ocean between South America and New Zealand.
The study was published in the Nature journal on Wednesday, and lead researcher Peter Strutton from the University of Tasmania said they found the links between the phytoplankton bloom and the smoke triggered by the bushfires. (Australia-Research-Bushfires)

AUCKLAND -- Three mobile vaccine buses are launched here on Thursday to help people fasten their COVID-19 vaccination in New Zealand's Auckland.

DHAKA -- Bangladeshi Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi and his counterpart Australian Minister for Trade, Tourism and Investment, Dan Tehan have signed a framework on trade and investment between the two countries.
The Trade and Investment Framework Arrangement (TIFA), the first of this kind between Australia and Bangladesh in the last five decades, is expected to provide a platform for institutionalized economic interactions and to open newer opportunities for trade and investment between the two countries, Bangladesh's Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement.
