ACCRA, Sept. 16 (Xinhua) -- Peter Twumasi, director general of Ghana's National Sports Authority (NSA), has tasked all sporting federations in the country to endeavor to win medals at the 2023 African Games.

He told Xinhua in an interview on Thursday that over 40 sporting disciplines would be given the needed support to ensure they win an unprecedented number of medals when Ghana hosts the Games in 2023.

"Government considers preparations as a very important part of winning medals so we continue to support the federations to give us medals," he said.

The government, he said, would provide sports infrastructure across all regions of the country to serve as a huge boost to sports development, while urging corporate entities to adopt sporting federations and support their activities.

Twumasi also said that Samuel Takyi, Ghana's bronze medalist at the recent Tokyo Olympic Games, had set the pace and other athletes must work hard to make the nation proud in 2023.

"The Games would also provide Ghana the opportunity to showcase our culture and sporting prowess," he added. Enditem
