DAKAR -- Senegalese Minister for Environment and Sustainable Development Abdou Karim Sall pledged on Thursday to advance the African environmental agenda, the Senegalese News Agency reported Thursday.

Addressing the environmental crises linked to climate and biodiversity urgently requires political responses based on consensus in Africa, said Sall, also new chair of the African Ministerial Conference on the Environment (AMCEN), at the 18th ordinary session of AMCEN via video link. UNITED NATIONS -- The United Nations intends to continue an honor system for vaccination status for entry into the General Assembly Hall during the high-level week despite a New York City requirement that all people should be vaccinated for entry.

ACCRA -- The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) said late Thursday that it has slapped sanctions on the Guinean military coup leaders and their relatives.

Addressing the media after a one-day extraordinary summit of heads of state in the Ghanaian capital over the political developments in Guinea and Mali, ECOWAS Commission President Jean-Claude Kassi Brou said the sanctions were to compel the military leaders to return their country to constitutional order without delay.
