Singapore reports 1,009 new COVID-19 cases

SINGAPORE, Sept. 18 (Xinhua) -- Singapore reported 1,009 new cases of COVID-19 infection on Saturday, bringing the total tally in the city-state to 76,792.

Of the new cases, 926 are in the community, 78 in migrant worker dormitories and five are imported cases, the Ministry of Health said in a statement.

A total of 863 COVID-19 cases are currently warded in the hospital. There are currently 105 cases of serious illness requiring oxygen supplementation, and 18 in critical condition in the ICU, said the MOH. Of those who have fallen very ill, 100 are seniors above 60 years old.

The ministry said a 90-year-old male Singaporean has passed away from complications due to COVID-19 infection, bringing the death toll to 60.

As of Sept. 17, 82 percent of the local population have completed two doses of COVID-19 vaccines, and 84 percent have received at least one dose, according to the MOH. Enditem
