JAKARTA -- The leader of ISIL-affiliated militant group East Indonesia Mujahideen (MIT), Ali Kalora, has been killed during a joint operation by the Indonesian military and police in Parigi Moutong district, Central Sulawesi province.

"Some of our security forces are currently on the hunt for the remaining four MIT members in a number of locations, but we can't disclose the locations so they (the fugitives) won't run away," Central Sulawesi Police's chief Insp. HOUSTON -- Five people were injured after a military training jet crashed on Sunday in a residential area in Lake Worth, the south central U.S. state of Texas, according to local media reports.

Two people were ejected from the plane and have been taken to local hospitals, with one person in critical condition and the other in serious condition, said a report from local media outlet Fort Worth Star-Telegram. (U.S.-Plane crash)

LOS ANGELES -- Two huge wildfires, the Windy and KNP Complex fires, burning around the Sequoia National Forest and the Sequoia National Park in U.S. state California, spread to 18,075 acres (73.1 square km) and 21,777 acres (88.1 square km) respectively on Sunday.

A statement released by the Sequoia National Park on Saturday said the KNP Complex reached the Four Guardsmen in the Giant Forest. The Giant Forest is the home for over 2,000 giant sequoias, including the General Sherman Tree -- the world's largest tree by volume. The Four Guardsmen is a colonnade of four giant sequoias located near the south gate of the forest. (U.S.-California-Wildfire)

MADRID -- Between 5,000 and 10,000 people are being evacuated after a volcano began erupting on the La Palma island of Spain's Canary Islands on Sunday afternoon.

Regional authorities confirmed that the evacuations have begun in the wake of the eruption, which began at 3:12 p.m. local time on the Cumbre Viejo volcano. (Spain-Volcano eruption)

HONG KONG -- The results of the 2021 Election Committee's subsector ordinary elections in China's Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) were unveiled on Monday morning as 364 of 412 candidates were elected as members in 13 subsectors of the Election Committee.

The Election Committee is endowed with important functions under the improved electoral system, including nominating candidates for the Chief Executive election, electing the Chief Executive designate, nominating candidates for the Legislative Council (LegCo) election, and electing 40 LegCo members. LOS ANGELES -- Disney and Marvel Studios' superhero film "Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings" continued its reign on top of the North American box office for the third weekend in a row with an estimated 21.7 million U.S. dollars, according to studio figures collected by measurement firm Comscore.

"Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings" has grossed 176.9 million dollars in North America for a massive global total to date of 320.6 million dollars. The theater-only release is the second-highest grossing film in North America so far this year and on its track to overtake its fellow Marvel release "Black Widow," which earned 183.3 million dollars in the region.
