BEIRUT, Sept. 21 (Xinhua) -- UN Special Coordinator for Lebanon Joanna Wronecka on Tuesday urged countries to support the Lebanese army and security institutions, the National News Agency reported.

"The crisis in Lebanon affects the operational capabilities of the Lebanese army. Therefore, the need to support it is more urgent than ever," Wronecka said during a meeting with the Lebanese Army Command, the UN's peacekeeping mission in Lebanon and ambassadors of several countries including China, the United States, Britain, Italy, France, Turkey and so on.

"Resolution 2591, which was adopted by the UN Security Council, includes in its tenth paragraph a call for more international support for the army. Therefore, I call on colleagues to adhere to this resolution in seeking to assist the Lebanese army and security institutions," Wronecka added.

Lebanon's Armed Forces Commander Joseph Aoun thanked "participating countries for their support and aid to the army, in light of the difficult circumstances that Lebanon has been experiencing." Enditem
