LUANDA, Sept. 23 (Xinhua) -- The president of the International Automobile Federation (FIA) Jean Todt promised here on Wednesday to mobilize resources to help Angola host the FIA General Assembly in 2023.

Todt was speaking at a press conference in Luanda at the end of his two-day visit to the African country.

Angola on Tuesday announced its intention to host the 2023 FIA General Assembly.

The president of the Angolan Motor Sports Federation (FADM), Ramiro Barreira, presented the candidacy on the occasion of Todt visiting Angola.

The event is expected to bring together more than a thousand people from 168 member states.

Todt highlighted the fact that Angola has been regularly attending international meetings shows the commitment of the national sport's managers.

"The future of motorsport could pass through Africa, which has a history of competitions," Todt said, pointing to South Africa as an experience to be adopted.

On the occasion, Todt called for support from Angolan social and economic partners, in addition to the state, to support the motorsport.

"Angola has a young practicing population and can make it to the top," he said.

During his two days visit to Angola, the FIA president held meetings with sports and political entities.

Todt on Wednesday laid the foundation stone for the construction of a race track in an area of 122 hectares in the Angolan district of Cabo Ledo, nearly 80 kilometers from capital Luanda.

According to the Angolan authorities, the project also includes a karting track, motocross track, tennis and golf. Enditem
