Iran reports 11,701 new COVID-19 cases, 5,559,691 in total

TEHRAN, Sept. 28 (Xinhua) -- Iran on Tuesday reported 11,701 new COVID-19 cases, taking the country's total infections to 5,559,691.

The pandemic has so far claimed 119,888 lives in the country, after 239 new deaths were registered in the past 24 hours, according to Iran's Ministry of Health and Medical Education.

A total of 4,988,109 people had recovered from the disease or been discharged from hospitals across the country, while 6,124 remained in intensive care units, it said.

By Tuesday, a total of 36,908,191 Iranians have received their first doses of COVID-19 vaccines, while 15,824,520 have taken two doses.
