DHAKA, Sept. 29 (Xinhua) -- Preparations for a virtual martial arts competition have been going on in full swing in Bangladesh with dozens of athletes training hard.

A month-long training camp for Wushu athletes is currently being held at a national stadium in the capital Dhaka as the "2021 the International Wushu Federation (IWUF) Wushu Taolu Virtual Competition" will kick off virtually next month.

Deepti Das Saru, an athlete of the Bangladeshi National team, who has been selected for the training, hoped to achieve good results in the competition.

"We have been stopped training for a long time due to the pandemic before coming to the camp," she said.

Some experienced athletes, who have won medals in national and international competitions, also receive training at the camp.

Morzina Akhter has won a silver medal in the 13th South Asian Games in 2019, and Md Kamrul Hasan, who works for the Bangladeshi army, is a national gold medalist.

Alamgir Shah Bhuiyan, the head instructor, who has been teaching Wushu since 1986, said some of the players have been brought from remote rural areas.

"At the camp, we are conducting training twice in the morning and afternoon. We are trying to find out good athletes to get more gold medals at international competitions," he said.

General Secretary of Bangladesh Wushu Federation Md Dulal Hossain said 23 members are included in the training camp. The performance of athletes will be recorded during the competition and passed it on to the IWUF.

The results of the competition will be released in November, he said.

The camp will also be used to train athletes for other games in the future, and athletes are looking forward to participating in more Wushu competitions in China, he added.

The Chinese embassy here has provided us with training equipment and funding, he said, adding that it would be helpful if some Chinese trainers could join. Enditem
