BRATISLAVA, Oct. 1 (Xinhua) -- The fourth round of the Slovak ice hockey premiership Tipos Extraliga was adorned by the attractive match-up between the top two teams of the season - HK Nitra and HC Slovan Bratislava - that resulted in a 13-goal scoring festival.

A whopping six goals were scored in the first period alone. Both teams remained neck and neck until the beginning of the third period but the visitors from the capital city managed to gain some distance afterward, scoring three goals in quick succession and cruising to an 8-5 victory. Nitra right-winger Robert Varga finished the night with a hat-trick, Slovan left-winger Samuel Takac amassed five points for a goal and four assists.

Earlier this week, Slovan was given a penalty and a 3-point-deduction after the regular season for not adhering to rules concerning junior players in the first round of the season, in which it defeated Trencin 4-1.

In the northern derby match, HK Spisska Nova Ves managed to resist HK Poprad only in the first period. After that, the previous season's runner-up scored twice in each of the remaining periods to take home a clear 4-0 victory. The visiting goalie Tomas Tomek made 29 saves on his first shutout of the season.

Elsewhere, HC Nove Zamky showed no mercy to the newcomer HC Grotto Presov, leading 3-0 already in the first period and finishing the night with an impressive 8-1 victory, led by the 25-year-old center Juraj Siska who dominated the scoreboard with three goals and one assist. The visitors tried to fight back but Nove Zamky goalie Jakub Lackovic closed the curtain and saved 32 shots, helping his team to climb up to 6th place in the standings.

HC '05 Banska Bystrica's forward Alex Tamasi scored twice to lead his team to a 3-1 victory over HK Dukla Trencin, the third in a row. HC '05 Banska Bystrica became one of the four teams with three victories so far, keeping a steady rhythm by scoring a goal each period against HK Dukla Tencin. Alex Tamasi scored the first two and his new teammate, the Russian forward Nikita Scerbak added the third goal on his debut.

HC Kosice succeeded in snapping its negative series of three consecutive defeats and leave the bottom of the standings behind. Things looked pretty bleak initially as MHK 32 Liptovsky Mikulas was leading 2-0 in the 16th minute, but the home team rallied and scored five goals in a row, led by last season's top scorer Marek Bartanus who found the back of the net twice on a powerplay and assisted on the game-opener, as well.

With a considerably smaller roster than in the previous season, HKM Zvolen is still struggling to return to its championship form, losing the second match in four rounds. The 5-goal second period was essential for HK Dukla Ingema Michalovce's close 4-3 victory. The visiting 24-year-old forward Roman Zitny carried his team with two goals and an assist. Enditem
