GAZA, Oct. 6 (Xinhua) -- The Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) on Wednesday said that the atmosphere of the talks with Egypt's General Intelligence Service Chief Abbas Kamel in the Egyptian capital Cairo is "positive."

In a press statement emailed to Xinhua, Hamas said that the two sides discussed a series of issues related to the political developments, the bilateral relations, achieving Palestinian unity, and rearranging the internal Palestinian affairs.

"The atmosphere of the meeting was positive, and there was a mutual understanding," Hamas said, adding that the meeting also discussed the Israeli measures and policies in the Palestinian territories, mainly in East Jerusalem.

The statement also said that Hamas delegation, headed by the movement's politburo chief Ismail Haniyeh, discussed the Palestinian prisoners' issue in Israeli prisons and their hard living conditions.

"Hamas delegation welcomed Egypt's role to reach a prisoners' exchange deal," the statement said.

On Sunday, a Hamas delegation, headed by Haniyeh and leader of the movement in the Gaza Strip Yahya Sinwar, arrived in Cairo and held talks with senior Egyptian security intelligence officials.

On May 21, Egypt brokered a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas-led militants in the Gaza Strip, which ended 11 days of a round of tension that left more than 250 Palestinians and 13 Israelis killed. Enditem
