SEOUL, Oct. 12 (Xinhua) -- South Korea will donate COVID-19 vaccines to Vietnam and Thailand, Seoul's foreign ministry said Tuesday.

South Korea will provide 1.1 million doses of AstraZeneca vaccines for Vietnam and 470,000 doses of the vaccines for Thailand. The shipments are scheduled to arrive in each Southeast Asian nation on Wednesday.

The ministry said the government will push for the vaccine donation to participate in the world's efforts to overcome the COVID-19 pandemic.

It noted that the selection of the nations was based on the consideration of the vaccine request, the safety of South Korean nationals living in foreign countries, foreign policy and the COVID-19 situation.

In the latest tally, South Korea administered the first dose of COVID-19 vaccines to 77.9 percent of the population, with 59.6 percent being fully vaccinated. Enditem
