RIO DE JANEIRO, Oct. 13 (Xinhua) -- Former goalkeeper Rogerio Ceni was appointed manager of Sao Paulo for the second time on Wednesday, just hours after the departure of Hernan Crespo.

Ceni agreed to a contract that runs until December 2022 and will be in the dugout for Sao Paulo's home clash against Ceara in Brazil's Serie A on Thursday," the club said on Twitter.

The announcement came less than three hours after Sao Paulo announced that Crespo had left by mutual consent amid a run of poor results.

The former Inter Milan, AC Milan and Chelsea striker joined Sao Paulo on a two-year contract in February after guiding Argentina's Defensa y Justicia to the Copa Sudamericana title, their first international trophy.

Ceni's last managerial job was with Flamengo, with whom he parted ways in July, six months after leading the Rio de Janeiro outfit to their second consecutive Serie A title.

The 48-year-old also had a spell in charge of Sao Paulo in 2017, when he led the club to 14 wins, 11 draws and 10 defeats before being sacked.

Six-time Serie A champions Sao Paulo are currently 13th in the 20-team top-flight standings with 30 points from 25 games. Enditem
