RIO DE JANEIRO, Oct. 14 (Xinhua) -- Manchester United loanee Andreas Pereira scored with a spectacular free-kick as Flamengo clinched a 3-1 home win over Juventude in Brazil's Serie A championship on Wednesday.

The 25-year-old left goalkeeper Douglas Friedrich with no chance by dispatching a dipping 30-yard effort into the top-right corner.

It was his third goal since joining Flamengo in late August and marked the Rio de Janeiro side's first goal from a free-kick since 2018.

Chelsea loanee Kenedy had given the hosts an early lead, netting his first goal for the club following a slick one-two with former Fiorentina striker Pedro Santos.

The latter then struck his 14th goal of the season by sweeping home a first-time finish after Michael's dangerous run and cross from the left flank.

William Matheus pulled a goal back for the visitors in the second half but Juventude were powerless to prevent Flamengo cruising to their 14th victory from 23 matches.

The reigning Serie A champions remain second in the 20-team standings with 45 points, 11 points behind Atletico Mineiro, who have played two more games.
