NEW DELHI, Oct. 14 (Xinhua) -- The Indian government on Thursday invited potential parties to bid for a pilot project that aims for the installation of a 1,000 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS), officials said.

The move is a joint effort of the federal ministry of new and renewable energy and the ministry of power, which have been working on a project to provide a road map for the installation of the energy storage system in the country.

"In order to support the ambitious goal of achieving the 450 GW renewable energy target of the ministry of new and renewable energy by 2030, it is important that it gets duly supported with the installation of energy storage systems (battery energy storage system and hydro pump storage plants)," the ministry of power said in a statement.

"Solar Energy Corporation of India, a Central Public Sector Undertaking under the ministry of new and renewable energy, has called for the expression of interest for the procurement of the 1,000 MWh BESS," the power ministry said.

It added that based on suggestions and feedback from various stakeholders, the final request for selection document will be floated in the first week of next month, along with the final comprehensive guidelines for procurement and utilization of the BESS as a part of generation, transmission and distribution assets.
