AMMAN, Oct. 17 (Xinhua) -- Jordan's Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority (ASEZA) on Sunday said it signed a Saudi-Jordanian investment deal to launch a new airline based in Aqaba.

The 20 million U.S. dollars investment deal entailed launching a new privately owned airline called Fly Aqaba, ASEZA Chief Commissioner Nayef Bakheet said in a statement.

The new airline will operate flights to Amman, other Arab countries, the Gulf region and Europe.

Bakheet said the deal will boost tourism of Aqaba through connecting the city with the rest of the world.

He added that Fly Aqaba will begin its operation with two planes.

Nasser Aliani, general manager of Fly Aqaba, said the investment project was the result of cooperation between Saudi Arabia and Jordan to serve the interests of both people and support the Jordanian economy. Enditem
