NEW YORK, Oct. 18 (Xinhua) -- U.S. stocks finished mixed on Monday as investors prepared for a busy week of earnings reports.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average decreased 36.15 points, or 0.10 percent, to 35,258.61. The S&P 500 was up 15.09 points, or 0.34 percent, to 4,486.46. The Nasdaq Composite Index rose 124.47 points, or 0.84 percent, to 15,021.81.

Seven of the 11 primary S&P 500 sectors ended in green, with consumer discretionary and technology up 1.2 percent and 0.85 percent, respectively, leading the gainers. Utilities slipped 0.97 percent, the worst-performing group.

U.S.-listed Chinese companies traded mostly higher with seven of the top 10 stocks by weight in the S&P U.S. Listed China 50 index ending the day on an upbeat note.

The above market reactions came as investors are awaiting a heavy slate of corporate earnings. Big names including Netflix, Johnson & Johnson, United Airlines and Tesla are set to report later this week.

So far, 80 percent of the 41 S&P 500 companies that have reported third-quarter results have topped earnings-per-share expectations, according to FactSet.

For the trading week ending Oct. 15, the Dow rose 1.6 percent, while the S&P 500 and the tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite climbed 1.8 percent and 2.2 percent, respectively. Enditem
