ABUJA, Oct. 18 (Xinhua) -- The Nigerian navy said on Monday that piracy incidents dropped in the Gulf of Guinea as well as the Nigerian waters.

The Gulf of Guinea region recorded 28 incidents of piracy and armed robbery in the first nine months of 2021, down from 46 a year ago, said the International Maritime Bureau(IMB) in a report.

"Notably, Nigeria reported only four cases compared to 17 in 2020 and 41 in 2018," the navy said, echoing the IMB's report.

"The overall reduction of piracy and armed robbery incidents in the region bore testament to enhanced maritime security and response coordination measures adopted by regional and national authorities," the navy added. Enditem
