BANGKOK, Oct. 22 (Xinhua) -- Thailand-China cooperation projects are expected to produce high investment and business potential, according to a study released by the International Institute for Trade and Development (ITD).

Local media on Friday quoted the ITD as saying that positive business potential is expected from the collaboration between Thailand's Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) and China's Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA).

Both the EEC and the GBA share objectives in promoting high-tech industries, which include robotic science, automation, electric vehicles, the medical sector, modern agriculture and clean energy, the ITD said.

The research also revealed three supportive factors that will boost more investments from China into the EEC areas. The first one is that Thailand has strong ties with China's Guangdong province as many Thai ancestors had migrated from this area in the past.

Mutual trust and respect between the two parties can be easily formed, thus creating great investment opportunities, the ITD added.

Secondly, both Thai and Guangdong government agencies have already signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to cooperate on various issues, such as the development of smart cities and startup communities.

The third supporting reason is that the EEC and the GBA each has its own strengths that can contribute to each other. The GBA has the advantages in terms of access to a global supply chain network, while the EEC area has a strong physical connection between infrastructure and facilities by land, sea and air.

The EEC, which covers areas in Chon Buri, Rayong and Chachoengsao, is Thailand's flagship scheme aiming to build a high-tech industrial hub to encourage international investments, uplift innovation and support advanced technology development for the country. Enditem
