NAIROBI, Oct. 22 (Xinhua) -- A new constitution for Kenya's troubled cricket national body was passed with amendments on Friday.

This clears the path to eventual elections for Cricket Kenya (CK) to usher a new office following years of a managerial dispute that has stagnated the sport in the country that reached the semifinals of the 2003 ICC Cricket World Cup.

The government-appointed Cricket Kenya Normalization Committee (CKNC) validated and adopted with amendments the Constitution of Cricket Kenya 2021 in the presence of various stakeholders in Nairobi.

The chairperson of the Normalization Committee, retired Lady Justice Joyce Aluoch, has hailed the development as a huge milestone as she pledged to incorporate the amendments into the draft document.

"We have given it all that we could, passion and attention. I am happy that we have passed it with amendments. There is nothing I wanted more than getting the game to the field and away from the boardroom," the former judge told stakeholders.

ICC representative and Zimbabwe Cricket Chairman Tavengwa Mukhulani urged Kenya to do all it can to return to the international cricket family.

"Getting Kenya, a sleeping giant back to her glory days, was all the world has been waiting for. The stakeholders are the real winners. You have done it for CK and the nation. I am proud of the work that has been put in for this occasion to happen," said Mukhulani. Enditem
