SEOUL -- South Korea will donate COVID-19 vaccines to Iran in a humanitarian effort to help the Middle East country tackle its vaccine shortage, the South Korean foreign ministry said Monday.

One million doses of AstraZeneca vaccines are scheduled to arrive in Iran on Wednesday as South Korea saw Tehran being placed under a serious humanitarian crisis, caused by the shortage of COVID-19 vaccines, the Seoul ministry said in a statement. (South Korea-Iran-Vaccine Donation)

TOKYO -- Tokyo and three surrounding prefectures of Kanagawa, Saitama, and Chiba, as well as Osaka on Monday lifted the COVID-19 restrictions on eateries following an ongoing downward trend in infections across Japan.

KUALA LUMPUR -- Fitch Solutions Country Risk and Industry Research on Monday revised upward Malaysia's 2021 real gross domestic product (GDP) growth forecast to 1.5 percent as the COVID-19 situation improves.

The Fitch unit said in a note, Malaysia's daily COVID-19 cases have slipped from a peak of 24,599 on Aug. 26 to 6,210 on Oct. 21, and a downtrend appears to be entrenched. (Malaysia-GDP-Fitch)

JALALABAD, Afghanistan -- Unknown armed men shot dead a religious scholar who served as a prayer leader at a local mosque in Behsoud district of Afghanistan's eastern Nangarhar province on Monday, a local official said.
