Israel's Maccabi Tel Aviv beat HJK Helsinki in UEFA Conference League

JERUSALEM, Nov. 4 (Xinhua) -- The Israeli club Maccabi Tel Aviv achieved a 3-0 home win against Finnish champions HJK Helsinki in the fourth round of Group A of UEFA Conference League on Thursday evening.

The match was played in front of 8,029 fans at Bloomfield Stadium in Jaffa, the southern part of the coastal Tel Aviv-Jaffa conurbation.

Maccabi dominated the match from the start and scored the first goal in the 22nd minute through Curacaoan international Brandley Kuwas after a pass by Gabi Kanichowsky.

Kuwas almost made it 2-0 after 9 minutes from a 25-meter free-kick, but Finnish goalkeeper Hugo Keto saved it.

The home team doubled the lead in the 65th-minute from an own goal by Lucas Lingman.

Substitute striker Matan Hozez scored the third goal in the final seconds with an impressive long-range shot.

With the win, Maccabi Tel Aviv leads the group with 10 points, followed by Austrian side LASK Linz, who also reached 10 points after a 2-0 home win over Armenia's FC Alashkert.

HJK is in third place with three points, while Alashkert is in fourth with no points.

The group winner after six rounds will advance directly to the playoffs, while the runner-up will play in the knockout round for a spot in the playoffs.

In the fifth round, the Israeli team will host LASK, while HJK will host Alashkert - with both matches to be played on November 25. Enditem
