GENEVA, Nov. 6 (Xinhua) -- The CEO of Swiss technology and engineering firm ABB Group said the 4th China International Import Expo (CIIE) offered a platform to further expand the company's operations in China.

ABB, a global technology and robotics leader focusing on digitalization, industrial Internet, artificial intelligence (AI) and sustainability, is headquartered in Oerlikon in the outskirts of Zurich and has been part of the CIIE for four consecutive years since it was first held in 2018.

"We see CIIE as an important forum to share our latest leading digital and smart technologies that help energize the transformation of society and industry for a more sustainable future," Bjorn Rosengren told Xinhua on the sidelines of the expo, which is taking place at the National Exhibition and Convention Center in Shanghai on Nov. 5-10.

"Over the past three years, we have exhibited more than 130 innovative products and technologies, launched a series of new products and digital solutions, and signed more than 70 Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with local customers at CIIE. Based on our excellent experience, we have signed up to take part in next year's exhibition as well," he added.

Rosengren said ABB is debuting more innovative products and solutions at this year's CIIE, such as a new greenhouse gas emission detection system, the switchgear ABB NeoGear, and the customized cabinet drive ACS880-07C equipped with ABB drive connectivity panel.

"These new technologies can further support our customers in China to save energy, enhance productivity and reduce environment impact," he added.

The executive also said ABB was planning to open a new robotics factory in Shanghai which will be put into operation in 2022 with a total investment of 150 million U.S. dollars.

"It will be the most advanced, automated and flexible factory in the robotics industry worldwide, a center where robots make robots. It will also be home to cutting-edge artificial intelligence research."

Asked about the group's future business strategy and opportunities, Rosengren said sustainability would be at the core of its operations.

"China has announced ambitious climate goals with a pledge to peak carbon emissions by 2030 and become carbon-neutral by 2060. As part of this process, technology innovation is already playing, and will continue to play a critical role. We believe that electrification, automation and digital technologies hold the key to the sustainable future."

China is ABB's second-largest market worldwide, where the company employs around 15,000 people.

"We are regularly aligning our activities in the country with local market demand and China's carbon neutrality ambition," the CEO said. Enditem
