BRATISLAVA, Nov. 8 (Xinhua) -- Slovak ice hockey league leader Slovan Bratislava was only seconds away from pushing Sunday's match against Nitra into overtime, but the video referee canceled the tying goal as being scored after the final buzzer.

After a goalless first period, the fans in the capital city were treated to a five-goal second stretch in which the visitors from Nitra took a 3-2 lead.

Both teams scored one goal each in the final period, but Slovan Bratislava pulled the goalie in the final moments and even managed to score the tying goal.

However, after consulting the video referee, the goal was waved off as it crossed the goal line just moments after the clock ran down.

The 4-3 loss gave a chance to the closest follower Dukla Michalovce to catch up.

Dukla Michalovce showed no respect to the winner of the previous season HKM Zvolen, leading 4-0 early in the third period.

Despite the huge deficit, Zvolen tried to mount a comeback, scoring three quick goals in succession. But Michalovce made good use of yet another powerplay and stretched the lead back to 5-3, winning 5-4 in the end.

With the win, Michalovce tied Bratislava on 31 points after 15 games in the table. Enditem
