BEIJING, Nov. 10 (Xinhua) -- Eighteen years after picking up shooting, Li Yuehong can finally call himself a world champion.
The 32-year-old defeated Tokyo Olympic winner Jean Quiquampoix for the men's 25m rapid fire pistol at the ISSF President's Cup (previously named World Cup Finals) that concluded on Tuesday in Wroclaw, Poland.
Scoring 592 points to lead the field in qualification, Li made 36 hits in the final, edging Quiquampoix by two hits for the gold medal.
This is the first world title for the two-time Olympic bronze medalist. Making it even sweeter for the 2010 Asian Games champion, the victory brought him the Golden Target award of the event.
His young teammate Sheng Lihao also had a fruitful journey in Poland. The Tokyo silver medalist won gold in the 10m air rifle mixed team event with pair Laura-Georgeta Ilie of Romania, which was decided by draw at this President's Cup.
In the individual event, the 17-year-old added a silver to his collection, after Patrik Jany of Slovakia. Two-time World Cup Finals winner Yang Haoran bowed out of the semifinals in both individual and team events.
Tokyo 10m air pistol mixed team champion Jiang Ranxin bagged a bronze in individual event, and Olympic bronze medalist Xiao Jiaruixuan won the 25m rapid fire pistol mixed team silver in pair with Peeter Olesk of Estonia.
The 25m rapid fire mixed team event was newly introduced together with 50m 3 positions mixed team event. The competitions were held according to the new rules in a test format, which semifinals were added to all events except men's 25m rapid fire pistol and women's 25m pistol. Enditem
