LUANDA, Nov. 11 (Xinhua) -- Angola opened its first high-tech center for testing and maintaining underwater equipment for oil production here on Wednesday.
Inaugurated by Minister of State for Economic Coordination Manuel Nunes Junior, the technology center installed on the outskirts of the country's capital will help oil companies reduce costs in maintaining drilling rigs, as they previously needed to test and calibrate crude oil exploration equipment abroad.
With the reduction of repair costs and shutdown period of drilling rigs, companies will be able to increase oil production in the country, said Pedro Godinho, CEO of Ake Solutions Angola, which has invested 25 million U.S. dollars to build the infrastructure.
Located on the Atlantic coast in the southern part of Africa, Angola is the second largest oil producer in Africa. The oil sector is a key driver of the country's economic growth. Enditem
