Live COVID-19 updates: Singapore reports 3,099 new COVID-19 cases

BEIJING, Nov. 13 (Xinhua) -- The following are the updates on the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

ADDIS ABABA -- Some 53 African countries have acquired about 357.9 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines so far, the Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) said on Friday.

The Africa CDC, the specialized healthcare agency of the African Union, said in a weekly update that around 6.06 percent of Africa's population have been fully vaccinated.

SINGAPORE -- Singapore reported 3,099 new cases of COVID-19 on Friday, bringing the total tally in the country to 233,176.

Of the new cases, 2,965 were in the community, 128 were in migrant worker dormitories and six were imported cases, the Ministry of Health (MOH) said in a press release.

BANGKOK -- China on Friday provided another batch of COVID-19 vaccines and anti-pandemic supplies to Thailand to help it fight the virus.

Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha expressed his appreciation for China's continued support to his country in fighting the pandemic, saying that Thailand stands ready to further enhance cooperation with China, including in research and development of COVID-19 vaccines.

THE HAGUE -- Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte announced on Friday a partial lockdown of three weeks, with restaurants, bars and essential shops having to close at 8 p.m. starting from Saturday, amid efforts to combat mounting COVID-19 infections.

"The Outbreak Management Team (OMT) has advised us to reduce the number of contacts between people on short notice," Rutte told a press conference, referring to a panel of experts advising on the COVID-19 situation. "We need a hard knock for a few weeks."

TUNIS -- Tunisia has started administering the third dose of the COVID-19 vaccine for people who have received the second dose at least five months ago, Tunis Afrique Presse (TAP) reported Friday.

"The health ministry has already launched the vaccination campaign targeting health personnel as well as people aged over 60 who have received two doses," the TAP quoted Ines Gmati, adviser to the country's health minister, as saying. Enditem
