YANGON -- Myanmar's Ministry of Health on Friday announced lifting of a stay-at-home order in 13 more towns as the places are witnessing fewer COVID-19 infections.

According to the ministry, the stay-at-home order will be lifted in the towns in Sagaing, Magway, Mandalay, Ayeyarwady regions and Kachin state on Saturday.

The number of COVID-19 infections has risen to 516,770 in Myanmar with 624 new COVID-19 cases reported on Friday, according to the ministry. (Myanmar-Stay-at-Home Order-COVID-19)

COLOMBO -- Sri Lanka's health officials said on Friday that that another sub-lineage of the COVID-19 Delta variant had been detected in the country and named as B.1.617.2.104.

Director of the Department of Immunology and Molecular Medicine at the University of Sri Jayewardenepura Dr. Chandima Jeewandara told the media that this new variant was in addition to the B.1.617.2.28 sub-lineage of the Delta, which was detected in the country earlier in September. NEW DELHI -- At least nine persons, including four children, died and a few others were injured on Friday after a wall collapsed in India's southern state of Tamil Nadu, confirmed a state government official.

The mishap occurred in the Pernampattu area in Vellore district due to incessant rainfall over the past couple of days, said media reports.

COLOMBO -- Sri Lanka's merchandise exports in October have crossed 1 billion U.S. dollars for the fourth consecutive month and for the fifth time this year, the country's Export Development Board (EDB) said in a statement on Friday.

"This is the highest-ever merchandise export figure in any October in our history. Opening up of Western markets together with the sustained production in Sri Lanka can be attributed to this increase," EDB Chairman Suresh de Mel said.

Merchandise export revenue stood at 1.2 billion dollars in October, 36 percent higher than in the same month in 2020. Export growth was driven by strong performance in sectors such as apparel and textile, jewellery, electronics, seafood, as well as processed food and beverages. (Sri Lanka-Export-Record)

HONG KONG -- Hong Kong shares ended lower Friday, with the benchmark Hang Seng Index down 1.07 percent to 25,049.97 points, marking a three-day decline streak.

The Hang Seng China Enterprises Index, a benchmark that reflects the overall performance of Chinese mainland securities listed in Hong Kong, lost 0.72 percent to end at 8,970.67 points.
